Julia & Drew’s Backyard Beach Wedding ~ Falmouth Photographers

Buckle up, because this post is going to be a good one. Just too many beautiful moments that need sharing. So, grab a drink and get ready to see some serious love, lots of happy celebration and some seriously stormy skies.

This beautiful love story focuses on Julia & Drew, an adorable couple who said, “I do!” last month on the sandy shores of Julia’s grandfather’s oceanfront home in Falmouth. We’d first come in contact with them when we photographed Jacqueline & Mitty’s wedding a few years ago. Jacqueline & Julia are cousins and Julia was one of her bridesmaids.

We were super excited when Julia reached out to us last year to photograph her wedding! We just love keeping it all in the family!

The grandfather’s home in Falmouth is very special and has served as the backdrop for lots of auspicious family occasions, and we’ve happily been invited to document a few of them.

In fact, skip back a few posts here on our blog and you’ll see our most recent family gathering at the property….the wedding of Jacqueline’s younger sister, Christina, to her super sweet beau, Jon.

We’re always looking for new ways to photograph familiar settings, so our challenge was trying to capture Julia & Drew’s special day in a way that reflected them and everything that made their beautiful day unique.

Without sounding overly confident…I think we crushed it!

I’d been feeling nervous all week leading up to the wedding…which sounds funny after 16 years of doing this, but I like to think it just means I still really care. Also, the forecast kept changing all week, going from super sunny (they were planning a beach wedding in the middle of the afternoon, so this wouldn’t have been ideal) to partly cloudy (I was feeling much more optimistic about this) to full on hurricane-like weather (EEEEK!).

But, as is so often the case, the weather gods smiled down on us and provided a picture perfect day. Julia & Drew got their beach wedding. We got just enough time for photos with family and the bridal party before the rain and wild winds blew in. And, the sky put on a performance that left guests spellbound. It was truly a magical day in every way.

There are a lot of photos to come…so without further ado, here’s a look at Julia & Drew’s magical Falmouth backyard beach wedding.

Julia & Drew didn’t want a big bridal party. Instead they choose a maid of honor and best man and that was it. I must admit, I’m partial to these smaller bridal parties. I think they make for a super calm morning of getting ready. The bride and groom really are more the center of attention…as they should be. And, with less people, there’s less potential for things to go wrong.

Julia got ready with her MOH Marisa and fellow besite, Katrina. It was a quiet, calm, lovely time and the fabulous ladies from Artworx made everyone look stunning, and seemed to have a lot of fun doing it.

Checking out the beautiful progress….isn’t she gorgeous!?!

Getting buttoned into her crazy beautiful gown. This dress could be one of my all time faves. Just loved it!! And Julia …man, did she wear it well!!

A toast with her besties and mom, Sarah, and her special Auntie.

Putting on her shoes and a last minute dab of gloss and we’re ready to go….

Love this moment, when a father sees his daughter for the first time in her wedding gown. You can just feel the pride he feels for her. I imagine him thinking about his own wedding day, seeing his wife in his daughter’s beautiful face. I’m sure he’s also thinking about the day she was born, and now here she is all grown up. I’m sure it’s a bittersweet time for parents…seeing their baby fully leave the nest, where parents are no longer the most important people in their child’s life. And, yet, they must feel so grateful that their son or daughter found someone so wonderful with whom to share their life. There’s just sooooo much wrapped up in this one moment and I……I love it!!

Beautiful Julia.

These in between moments are some of my favorites too….they just speak to the anticipation that is the wedding day….that moment right before you walk out the room to say, “I do!” with besties at your side and your nerves fully in your throat. So awesome.

While Julia was getting ready at her grandfather’s house, Drew got ready at the Sea Crest Resort with his best man and big brother, Garrett, their dad, David, grandfather, Dick, and some other close friends. Just love this moment Andy captured of Drew putting on his tie, as his dad fixes his in the background.

Drew’s grandfather, Dick, looking pretty dapper.

Chillaxing with friends and a cold one.

LOOOOOOVE these next two moments of Garrett and his dad and Drew looking ridiculously dapper!!

Annnnntiiiiiciiipattttionnn…is making me wait. (Can’t help but hear that 70s song in my head when I look at this photo).

Loookin’ good, Drew!!! Way to work those chiseled features! GQ called and they want their model back. Seriously dude…didn’t you guys tell us you don’t generally like the way you look in photos? I mean….WHAT??!!

Drew’s super sweet parents, Deborah & David, head down to the ceremony…just looove the looks on their sweet faces as they see their son. Be still my heart!

And these next two…..I can barely stand how Julia & Drew are grinning from ear to ear as they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. Soooo much happiness!! It’s moments like these that I feel so grateful that Andy & I work together and can capture these moments simultaneously.

All smiles as our beautiful bride makes her way down the aisle on the arm of her sweet dad, John.

The happy hand off…

And one last kiss on the cheek from her proud papa before she is married. Looooove the look on Julia’s face as she soaks in this moment.

Could Drew look any happier?

Surrounded by family & friends in a place they love so, pledging their lives to one another….it doesn’t get much better than this.

Love was everywhere…

Julia’s sweet momma, Sarah, beaming with joy for her baby girl and this lifelong love she has found.

Taking it all in…

Drew’s parents enjoy every love-filled second.

With these rings…

I thee wed…

Hand in hand and with a kiss, we seal these vows.

Just love the look on Julia’s dad’s face as the newly married couple makes their way down the aisle.

The new Mr. & Mrs.

Our wish for you is that every moment of your married life feels just like these…full of joy and unbridled happiness, laced with romance and a boundless love.

By your side is where I always want to be.

May this always be your happy place, full of the memories of this glorious day.

Your lips taste of the promise of a happy ever after.

B . E . A . U . T . I . E . S .

Julia & Drew, these are the days you’ll remember.

Hand-in-hand + side-by-side = where I always want to be.

Wooo hooooo!

A tender kiss and dramatic skies.

An electric kind of love!! Yes, that’s lightening!

The wind really starting kicking up towards the end of our time with Julia & Drew….this fun moment as Drew’s tie flew into Julia’s face made us all giggle.

I mean…..does it get more dramatic than this setting?

Leaning in…

Friends and family gathered outside the tent during cocktail hour to watch the rapidly changing sky. We could almost see the sheets of rain off in the distance traveling across the land.

Having fun in the wind with her besties.

Warm winds and even warmer embraces.

Love was most definitely in the air….awww “shucks.”

Some delicious treats from the fabulous Casual Gourmet

Hanging with her cousins, who were admiring her ring. So cute. (left to right: Leah, Jac, Julia & Christina)

The Sperry tent was beautifully decorated by the uber talented Courtney Iris Barnes of Courtney’s Floral Creations and everything came together under the beautiful care and guidance of Megan & Sara of Elegant Engagements

Even the bees loved it…

A cake covered in garden roses…swoon and sprigs of rosemary for the head table.

Having fun with their first dance.

Soaking in all the love family & friends during the toasts.

Just love the way Marisa is looking at her best friend as she watches her soak in all the loving words. This is what true friendship looks like.

John’s toast was full of pride for his baby girl….#daddysgirl.

Andy & I love watching for awesome expressions from guests during the toasts, and this crowd did not disappoint.

Cheers!!

A big hug for big brother.

A perfect sunset to cap off a perfect day…

Taaaa daaa!

Getting down on it…

Heee haw…

More dance floor fun.

The Sultans of Swing had everyone going crazy on the dance floor. Love these guys!

Get it girl!!!

May your love burn bright as bright as it did on this beautiful day and may it last as long as the stars in the night sky.

Julia & Drew, thank you both so much for inviting us to share in your beautiful wedding. We loved being there to capture every beautiful moment and we hope these photos serve as happy reminders of your special day for many happy years to come! Big hugs, Christine & Andy

Christina & Jon’s Falmouth Wedding ~ Cape Cod Photographers

The Falmouth wedding of Christina & Jon was pretty much a fairytale in every way! Princess Christina & Prince Jon are just the kindest, most lovely, warm, wonderful people one could ever hope to meet…they’re not really royalty, in case that wasn’t obvious, but they do have everything going for them that a Disney prince & princess do…all that AND a bag of chips!

We were lucky enough to be a part of their wedding rehearsal dinner the night before their wedding, so we got to meet a lot of their closest peeps. You can catch a glimpse into those fun festivities HERE.

But, their wedding was definitely the pièce de résistance of the weekend as about 170 friends and family members gathered to celebrate these two special people.

Their beautiful ceremony was held at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in North Falmouth and was led by Deacon Peter Guresh.  Their reception followed at the family’s ocean front home in North Falmouth, under a gorgeous sailcloth tent by Sperry Tent, with crazy beautiful flowers by the ridiculously talented Courtney Iris Barnes of Courtney’s Floral Creations. Catering was provided by the fabulous Olive Chase at The Casual Gourmet, and music by the high-energy, super fun Boston band, Hi-Fi, with all of the details of the weekend coming together seamlessly thanks to the care and creativity of the dynamic duo Megan & Sarah from Elegant Engagements.

Christina’s drop-dead gorgeous Reem Acra dress was definitely fit for a princess.

Just love how their stunning wedding invitations by Elise Cherney of No Regrets in Newtonville were a subtle nod to Christina’s dress.

Getting into her dress with a little help from her beautiful momma, Elissa. Just love her boho chic ponytail by Erik Howard of Will Charles Salon.

Mom getting a good look and clearly liking what she sees! Who could blame her!

Christina’s super sweet dad, Dennis, getting his first glimpse. Just love their reactions!

Bridemaids and cousins, Julia (left) and Leah putting on their finishing touches.

Stunning….

Meanwhile at the Sea Crest Hotel, Jon and his besties get ready for the big day.

Henry puts on his bow tie, as Jon and his other groomsmen get ready. Such a nice group of guys, which is no surprise given how lovely Jon is.

Looking good, Jon!!! You too Max!

What did we ever do to entertain ourselves before smart phones? I have no idea what the guys were watching, but it looks like it was good stuff.

A toast with your best mates…what could be better?

Jon & Christina opted for a first look, which meant meeting back at Christina’s grandfather’s house for photos….loved having all the time we had with these guys before the ceremony & reception began.

With everyone else away for a bit, Jon waits for Christina to make her way to him for their first look. I just love his face and how he’s biting his tongue, no doubt to hold back the happy tears. Such a tender heart!

The look of love….

And an embrace that speaks volumes!! Just love these two!

Oh Jon…..you are the sweetest!

With you by my side….everything is possible.

After a few minutes with our happy couple, we invited family to join us for some photos. Just love this candid moment featuring Jon’s crazy sweet momma, Karen, and dad, Tom.

Fun times with best friends….(PS…If you’re a frequent visitor to our blog…AND have a killer memory…you may recognize Christina’s totally awesome sister & MOH, Jac (right). We photographed her amazeballs wedding four years ago.)

In addition to her sis, Christina’s bridal party included all cousins. For Jon, it was his closest friends and big brother, Brendan, was BM. Such an awesome group!! We had so much fun with these guys!

We had so much fun with these guys!

This next one reminds me of something out of one of those thick coffee table fashion photography books. I just love those in between moments in life…when folks aren’t aware of our cameras and everything just falls into place in such a beautiful, real way! (PS…Keep an eye out for Christina’s cousin, Julia, holding her dress, we photographed her wedding a few weeks after this one and will be highlighting that soon on our blog!)

Quiet moments with our princess and prince.

We’re goinnnnng to the chapellll and we’re gonnnnnaaa get maaaaaarried. Waving by to family as they head to the limo.

And, here we go….

Friends arrive at St. Elizabeth Seton for the ceremony…excited to see these two awesome people say, “I do!” Heeeey, Marissa!!

That moment, when you feel all the feels and realize this man you’ve loved forever is about to lead you down the aisle to meet the new, most important man in your life. So much love & gratitude…for showing you what a real man looks like and for loving you without limits. Just the best!!!

Here comes the bride….Jon can barely contain himself, and Christina’s little shoulder scrunch as she feels all eyes on her! AHHHH, these two….just the sweetest!!!

Love the look Elissa gives Dennis after he takes his seat. Proud parents…so sweet!

Sharing words of wisdom, guidance and love, Deacon Guresh speaks to Christina & Jon.

Here we go….the “I do!” part. You think they’re happy?

With this ring….I thee wed.

Wooooooo hoooooo!!!

The new Mr. & Mrs.!!!

Family celebrate with hugs outside the church, including Jon’s dad & brother. So sweet!

Our happy couple boarded a trolley with family & bridal party and off they went, first bidding farewell to guests still outside the church.

Love these quiet moments on the trolley, when couples have a chance to soak in what just happened.

A few quick beach portraits with our newly married Mr. & Mrs.

A perfect summer night + a sailboat + a kiss from your forever person + a day to remember = one hell of a fairytale!

Practicing their first dance moves on the jetty…be still my heart!

Here in your arms is where I always want to be…

Love. Love. Beautiful Love!

Pretty in pink…just love the way the tent came together with all the stunning details.

And touches of gold.

Elissa and friends enjoying cocktail hour.

Friends of C&J gather for a photo.

Cousin Ashley enjoying cocktail hour conversation…so cute!

Their first dance as a married couple…

The reaction from family & friends was one of rousing approval.

Brendan’s toast could be my all time favorite best man toast ever! He crushed it!! It was sweet and sentimental, full of love & pride for his baby brother and it was also brilliant and hysterically funny.

Reacting to loving words directed at her new husband.

I felt for Jac, having to follow Brendan, but she too nailed it and gave her sissie all the feels!

So much love between these two sweet sisters. Just love them and feel so grateful to have shared such special days with them both!!

When you get a killer sunset, you gotta interrupt dinner for a few quick photos. Baaaaam!!!

Dancing with his beautiful momma…can’t you feel the joy?

Guests getting down on it…

Get it Matty….the love was contagious.

Auntie Sarah busting some serious moves…you go girl!

More fun dance floor antics.

A perfect ending to a perfect day!

Thank you to everyone who made this day so special for our happy couple. Heartfelt thanks to Elissa & Dennis, for once again sharing such an important family milestone with us and entrusting us to document these precious family memories!! Christina & Jon….you two are just delightful in every way and we feel so honored to have shared in this amazing day with you both!! Thank you for welcoming us with such open arms and open hearts and reminding us why we love what we do!! We hope these photos bring you as much joy as being a part of your wedding brought us! The rest of the photos will go online very soon…so stay tuned. Until then, we send you both big love & hugs,

Christine & Andy xoxo

Annie & Brian’s Chatham Bars Inn Wedding

W0314_1500 copy

Have you ever met two people and instantly thought…these two are perfect for each other? Well, that’s what ran through my mind the first time we met Annie & Brian, and then again, this spring when we got together with them for their engagement session (totally slacked on that post, but I’ll try and post those photos this winter when we’re a bit less busy).

Like Andy & me, three years separate Annie & Brian, with Annie being the more senior in the couple…also like Andy & me. They are both super smart, super sweet, genuine, kind, warm, thoughtful, sincere, caring people. Their senses of humor mesh, their interests mesh, their families and friends mesh. They’re just really good together and seem to bring out the best in one another.

Annie & Brian first met when Annie was working for McKinsey in NYC. Brian had an appointment for his second interview and one of the people sitting across the table from him was Annie. “I felt like I got the type of she was right away,” he told us. “Anyway, we ended up having to interact a bunch of times throughout the interview process and Annie and I, I thought, had started to become friends.”

If you ask Annie, her story varies slightly….which is also kind of how these two operate, and it’s adorable! According to Annie she was the consultant assigned to “convince Brian to join the firm.” So, the weekly calls were more of an obligation than a personal interest…or so she says. “(As a consultant) we usually call and every week the person has various questions about the company or the work or whatever, but the funny thing about Brian, which I found royally irritating at the time, was that he never had any questions. He just kind of wanted to chat,” Annie said.

Annie is the kind of person who really extends herself to people…she asks questions and engages and if you’ve met her more than once, you might find yourself invited out for a drink. to some thing or another that she’s hosting or going to. That’s how it was with Brian. After he accepted the job at McKinley, she casually, and without ever thinking he’d actually come, invited him to her birthday party. “I was 500% sure he would not come…I was just trying to be nice,” she said. But, he did come, much to the delight of Annie’s friends, who thought it was hysterical that “a college kid” who she’d basically recruited showed up at her birthday party. “This sparks the world’s longest facebook message thread and we see each other a handful of times over the next couple of months,” added Brian.

And, well….the rest is history, as they say. A friendship blossomed and soon they both realized that they liked each other more than just as friends. And, on Memorial Day weekend, these two lovely people, surrounded by 250 friends and family…these two seriously have a lot of really cool friends!….pledged their lives and hearts to one another in one of the sweetest ceremonies we’ve seen. I’ll admit to having welled up more than once….note above photo!

I could go on and on about these two, but I know you come here for the photos, so here they are….

09 wedding getting ready

Annie got ready at the Harwich home she grew up coming to every summer. Sadly, it’s been 10 years since, Annie’s mom passed away, but she and her dad still love coming to the house, which is filled with happy memories and lots of her mom’s touches. I just loved the narrow hallway leading up to Annie’s childhood bedroom. The vintage wallpaper and detailed woodwork added the perfect charm for a photo of her stunning wedding dress.

W0314_0543 copy

Annie’s super sweet dad, Jim, painstakingly made Mickey Mouse shaped blueberry and chocolate chip (Annie’s favorite) pancakes for Annie & her friends amid all the getting ready chaos. It was something he often did for them when they were little and you could just see how proud he was to be making them again on this very special day. Couldn’t you just hug him?

W0314_0555 copy

Annie’s bridesmaids, Zoe & Caitlin getting their dos on thanks to Jackie Norie & her fabulous staff at Wedding Tresses.

10 wedding dad gift

When her hair & make up was done, Annie gave her dad a very special gift….a frame she made using photos of her & him throughout her life, along with a sweet embroidery message of love for him. He’s generally a pretty together guy, but his reaction to this sweet gift was…..priceless!

W0314_0598bw copy

Look at his face!!! Love him!

W0314_0602 copy

Annie & her gal pals, including co-MOH, Molly, take a minute to soak in the moment and enjoy some champagne before getting dressed. These girls were soooo much fun to be around!

W0314_0612 copy

When a bride is getting dressed it can be a time of mixed feelings…she’s excited for sure, but sometimes the zipper doesn’t go up with ease, or the nerves start to kick in and you can read it all over their face. But, not Annie….love her!

Meanwhile, across town at the Chatham Bars Inn, Brian and his besties hang out on the roof deck and enjoy the cool, crisp, perfectly sunny day.

More happy faces on groomsmen Charlie & Lee as they chat with Brian’s super sweet dad, Kevin. Can we talk about that view?! Oh, and the ceremony took place down on the lawn there behind them, with the crazy fun party continuing behind them in the brand new and stunning Sperry Tent.

Annie & Brian opted to see each other before their ceremony….to have a “first look” and then meet family & bridal party for some photos, so they could enjoy their cocktail hour (and a half…..love a long cocktail hour! Lots of time for great candids!) We discussed a couple of different options for their first look and Annie & Brian settled on Schoolhouse Ice Cream, which is just down the road from her dad’s house, and turned out to be a super cute backdrop for these two sweeties!

13 wedding first look

Yummy…

15 wedding schoolhouse

Annie & Brian love coming to this place so much that they ordered a ton of their favorite flavors for guests to enjoy at their wedding. But, they couldn’t wait and decided to enjoy a little themselves…pre-wedding. I’ll admit, I didn’t see this coming, but just LOVED that they took that time to really savor the moment (pun intended!)

14 wedding ice cream

These two….couldn’t you just eat them up! (Love this fun perspective through the porch railing that Andy got!)

W0314_0794 copy

…..I couldn’t resist taking advantage of the fun sign. Oh well guys….secret’s out about your little early dessert rendezvous.

W0314_0813 copy

Happiness is….sharing ice cream with your favorite person, at your favorite place on what will likely become one of your favorite days.

16 wedding ice cream

Off to CBI we went for some beachy fun. Poor Annie gets cold reeeeeally easily. And, I’ll admit, it was unseasonably cold on Memorial Day weekend, when they got married. But, Annie is a trooper and all I see is hot….

It’s official….the new Mr. & Mrs. seal it with a kiss.

W0314_1239 copy

My favorite part of the ceremony was when Brian made his way down the aisle, flanked by his wonderfully supportive parents. The emotion of the moment just overcame him and I just love EVERYTHING about this next photo. I remember welling up and simultaneously smiling soooo big when I took it! Just look at how Jill & Kevin are looking at him, completely enamored and thrilled that their sweet boy is so happy! It’s what I imagine every parent wants for their child…for them to find a love this big! Just beautiful!

Annie exchanges a loving embrace with her Aunt, her mom’s sister. Having not had my mom there for our wedding, I totally get how significant this moment was for both of these women!

W0314_1465 copy

Annie & Brian are different but most definitely equal and it made perfect sense that she & Brian both break a glass at the conclusion of the ceremony. Annie practiced earlier in the day and totally nailed it, but that slippery stage gave her some trouble. Being the person she is, she persisted…much to the delight of everyone…including Jill.

Is the music too loud??? LOL! Bless his little cotton socks!

W0314_1863 copy

Another super cool detail, which I imagine couldn’t be easy to pull off for 250 people, was having dinner served family style. So cool! As I was wondering around outside the tent, I noticed Jim, taking a moment alone to practice his speech. I live for moments like this!!!! So much story in one photo…just love that!!!
