Kaley & John’s Wequassett Wedding

W0315_0678

Day weddings…can we talk for a second about just how much I love them!! I love them a LOT!! Particularly when they take place at a setting as stunning as the Cape’s only five start resort — The Wequassett Resort & Golf Club in Harwich. We work at Wequassett a lot, but most of our weddings there are evening weddings, with a 6PM ceremony start time, which really only leaves 2-3 hours to enjoy the view.

I think most people who choose to get married here on Cape Cod do so because of the beauty of the place….the sparkling deep blue water, sandy shores, the cedar shingles and chic elegance that only this part of the world offers. Getting married in the evening is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but once the sun sets, you could be anywhere. But, when you’re ceremony is at 10AM, the entire day and the beauty of the place can be enjoyed languidly.

And, from a photographer’s standpoint, we just love starting and finishing early. It’s like we get two days in one. Even 15 years later, I still get the wedding day jitters (which is how I think it should be…the day I stop feeling nervous is the day I probably shouldn’t be doing this anymore), so starting early works for me…let’s me harness that energy right away and lets the creativity sparks fly.

But, what I really love most about day weddings is how relaxed everyone we’re photographing seems to be. I know a lot of couples worry that folks won’t dance or it won’t seem “fun enough.” I had the same misguided thoughts when Andy & I opted for an evening wedding. But, having now seen lots of different kinds of weddings, starting and ending at different times, I’m a HUGE fan of the day wedding when it’s being held at a place known for its views. It’s like a cocktail hour that lasts all day long.

Kaley & John’s day wedding was the perfect example of what makes day weddings so awesome!! They were blessed with a picture perfect summer day…sunny but not too hot. Getting ready started super early, but who can sleep anyway the day before one of the biggest commitments a person can ever make? And, they had an after party later that night, so they still go their late night dancing and debauchery.

We first met up with them just after 7AM…a pretty early start time for us, but again, we’re up then anyway and I preferred putting my nervous energy right to good use. While Kaley and her bridesmaids were finishing up with hair & make up in the Cape Villa suites, I headed to her room to capture some wedding details. Just love the early morning light as it fell upon Kaley’s sparklicious Jimmy Choos and her crazy beautiful two-piece wedding dress. In all the hundreds of weddings we’ve photographed, I have yet to see a dress I didn’t love, but this one definitely ranks among my favorites. It looked super light and comfortable and on Kaley, it was angelic! It was like it was made just for her!

Annie & Brian’s Chic Borsari Gallery Rehearsal Dinner

W0314_0292

Day 2 of Annie & Brian’s wedding weekend concluded with their Rehearsal Dinner at the rustic and uber romantic Borsari Gallery in Dennis.

Built in 1895 by Sea Captain Uriah Howe, the barn was originally an abattoir for the Cape. It later served as a gallery for local artist David Grose. In 2008, Bob and Kathy Borsari purchased the property and spent three years transforming the post and beam structure back to its original rustic beauty, where it now serves as a beautiful backdrop for weddings, rehearsal dinners and other intimate events.

The main floor serves as the dinner space with art covering the wood slat walls. Downstairs features a wine cellar with cement floors and a chic and sexy vibe. And an outdoor patio surrounded by lush local vegetation completes the serene setting.

Annie & Brian we are so grateful to you and your families for once again sharing such a special weekend with us. Getting to hear all of the wonderful and super thoughtful things your family & friends shared about you demonstrated how much effort you two put into your relationships and how much people appreciate you. It’s been an honor to get to know you both; you epitomize the idea that you get back what you put out into the world….and it’s obvious that you two put out a lot of love!

Thank you too again to Jamie Bohlin and the fabulous team at Cape Cod Celebrations. You guys sure do know how to throw a party! Bob & Kathy it was great meeting you both and we hope to see you back at the Gallery very soon!

Annie & Brian’s Chatham Bars Inn Welcome Dinner

W0314_0020

It’s not unusual for us to be asked to photograph a couple’s rehearsal dinner. We love when that happens because it means having extra time with our couple, their family and friends. The more time we have with people, the more comfortable they are with us and the more relaxed they end up being when in front of our cameras….which always results in better photos!

So, when Annie & Brian wanted us to not only document their rehearsal dinner, but also the welcome dinner they were planning for everyone the night before, we were super excited. The festivities began Friday night of Memorial Day weekend, at the beautiful Chatham Bars Inn Beach House Grill, where their entire 250+ guest list was invited for a relaxed barbecue/lobster bake, with music, beach games and s’mores by the fire.

We arrived a little early to greet Annie, Brian and their parents. The happy couple wanted to thank their super supportive and incredibly loving parents with some playful gifts. Here Jill, Brian’s super fly momma, shows off her Mother Of the Groom baseball hat in Annie & Brian’s blue & yellow wedding colors.

Love this tender moment with Annie and her super sweet dad, Jim, before guests begin arriving. Annie’s mom tragically passed away 10+ years ago, and with no siblings, she and her dad are as tight as two can be. Seeing them together in this way warms this daddy girl’s heart!

The dinner was like one big long cocktail hour, with a buffet dinner and guests mingling inside and out. Happy was definitely the theme for the evening!

Thank you Annie & Brian for inviting us to share in this incredible weekend of love! Thank you Jamie Bohlin of Cape Cod Celebrations for helping to make that happen and for just being so stinking good at what you do! As always, we loved working alongside you and your fabulous team! Thank you too to Kate Mann and the rest of the staff at Chatham Bars Inn for a flawless evening of fun!
