Katie & Richie’s Wequassett Wedding ~ Cape Cod Photographers

wequassett resort bride & groom

Katie & Richie met six years ago, while they were both in college and visiting the Cape with friends.  “I was having ice cream with my best friend Jenna in the Mashpee Commons, when we ran into Jenna’s friend Kayla, and her friend Richie,” Katie told us. “I remember talking to them both and saying to Jenna….’Wow, who is that Richie guy? He is so cute!'”

It wasn’t until a few years later that they met again, while bowling with the same group of friends…and like any good love story….sparks flew.

“It’s funny how the universe has its way of bringing people into your life when you least expect it. I can honestly say that after a few dates with Rich, I felt as though I had known him for my whole life,” Katie said.

Last month, Katie & Richie committed their lives & hearts to one another, surrounded by family & friends at the beautiful seaside Wequassett Resort in Harwich.

Their wedding was the stuff from which fairytales are made…and for us it was also a sort of homecoming. Last summer, we had the pleasure of photographing the equally amazing wedding of Richie’s big sister, Kerri. You can read more about Kerri & her sweet hubs Billy HERE.

We really hit it off with Richie’s family right away and fell just as hard for Katie’s super sweet, incredibly loving, warm, and wonderful family. Seeing these two incredible families merge was such a treat.

There were so many incredible, love-filled moments that peppered their day, it was reeeealllly hard to pick just a handful to highlight here. As I write this post, I keep feeling like there’s so much more to share. But, we don’t want to make Katie, Richie & their families wait any longer, so here’s just a few of our favorite moments from the day….

I can only imagine how amazing this moment feels as a parent, when you watch your baby, all grown up, commit their life and heart to someone you just know is going to love her like you do. Katie’s parents, Sue & Butch, certainly seem to approve of this union and the looks on their beautiful faces make my heart smile….BIG.

Jackie & Chris’s Wychmere Harbor Club wedding ~ Harwich Port photographers

bride & groom on beach path

Jackie & Chris’s wedding day was Cape Cod perfection at it’s best….quintessential beach wedding goodness, right from the rainy, cloudy start to the spectacularly sunny finish. With Wychmere Harbor Club’s sandy beach paths and their sailboat entrance, it’s what one dreams their wedding will be when deciding you want to say, “I do!” on these beautiful shores of the Cape.

We’ve known Jackie for many years now, since first meeting her when she was MOH at the wedding of her big sis, Jenn. We loved her then and had always hoped we might be there to document her wedding day…when the time was right. Well, the time was right…and everything could not have gone better!

We first had the pleasure of meeting Chris last summer, when we photographed him and Jackie for their crazy beautiful love session in Sandwich. Click HERE for a look.

Chris is a quiet, kind, warm, and clearly smitten with Jackie. They are really such a sweet couple. We loved spending time with them and had so much fun at their e-session, which was also classic Cape Cod goodness. Jackie’s dress for the e-session was awesome!!! I literally gasped when I saw her, knowing it would catch the wind and just be so beachy beautiful. But, man, did she turn up the heat for her wedding, with her amazing mermaid style Amsale gown that hugged in all the right places. Chris’s classic grey JCrew suit was the perfect compliment! Truly, all of the details they selected were beautiful and came together perfectly thanks to the flawless execution of planner, Allison Liset and her team at Elegant Engagements.

Here’s Jackie & Chris’s invitations by Kleinfeld Paper….. elegant and understated, with the perfect pop of gold! And, just love the image they chose from our e-session for their Save the Date card. Perfect!

Meanwhile, back at the dock, Chris’s niece, Kayla, waits with her Papa Joe for Uncle Chris & Auntie Jackie to arrive. When Andy & I started Bello 14 years ago, we decided early on that we wanted to photograph weddings together, so we could really tell a more complete story of our couples’ wedding day. It’s been one thing that’s really made us stand out and our work shine and we’re so happy to see more studios offering two shooters.

I’m not a fan of the expression sisters before misters…but I do love the way women love & support each other. These friendships we forge with one another are like no others. Our gal pals get us, are there for us, inspire and cheer each other on. And, this photo sums that up for me. I just love it! And, loved hanging with these beautiful, wonderful, totally awesome women!!!

While dinner was still going on, and the sun has settled below the horizon, we stole Jackie & Chris away for a few minutes…one more cherry on the top of an already cherry-rific cake. I had seen this field of Queen Anne’s Lace earlier in the day and knew it would be an amazing spot for photos. It was a small grassy area that didn’t look like much…but TAAAA DAAAA! I just love when I find spots that others might look right past and find a way to make them extraordinary. I try to challenge myself with this every time I shoot and it makes me so happy that I can still do it…14 years later!

What an amazing time we had at this wedding! Jackie & Chris, thank you so very much for being so warm and wonderful…for sharing such a special time in your lives with us and for giving us so much love & goodness to capture! Thanks too to Maria & Charlie for inviting us to document another wedding for your amazing family! You guys are wonderful and we adore you and our time together! Joe & Lee….it was so wonderful meeting you both and getting to know your wonderful sons. A special shout out to the bridal party…who rocked it and made our job so fun!! Special thanks too to Wychmere’s Karen Rood and staff for making our job not feel like work! To all the amazing vendors who remind us why we are lucky to do what we do in this beautiful place we call home!! Jackie & Chris, we hope you enjoy this sneak peek…honestly, it was sooooo hard choosing just a few photos to share while your proof book is getting printed! I feel like we left so many amazing ones out! Cannot wait for you to see them all!! Honestly….the best is yet to come!! Love you guys! Christine & Andy xoxo

A surprise proposal ~ Chatham wedding photographers

wedding proposal on the beach

Craig had reached out to us several weeks ago about documenting his surprise proposal to long-time girlfriend, Rita. He had seen a proposal session we did with super cuties, Jim & Keri, on our blog and decided he wanted his own happy moment captured in photographs.

Craig had chartered a small boat to take him and Rita on a sunset cruise around the waters off Chatham Harbor, past Stage Harbor Lighthouse. His plan was to have the boat drop anchor off a secluded island near Harding Beach Point, so he could get down on one knee and ask the girl of his dreams to marry him.

We were, of course, totally sold on the idea and super excited to pretend to be on the same tour, there to photograph the seals and sand bars……..all the while, cameras ready to capture the moment when Craig proposed. We spoke with Helaine & Tom, owners of Chatham Boat Tours, to go over the plans and make sure everything went off without a hitch.

The day finally arrived last week and we were so looking forward to meeting Craig & Rita, but a little nervous about the secrecy of our mission. Happily everything went according to plan and a completely unsuspecting Rita say, “YES!!”

chatham wedding proposal

Standing on the beach, pretending we were super interested in a dead seal that had washed ashore, we watched intently as Craig led Rita down the beach. Noting our readiness, he pointed to something down the beach and when Rita turned to look, he took a step back and dropped to one knee. Watching her expression as she turned around was awesome, particularly after having  heard so much about Rita & Craig and his plans to propose.

Craig had spoke lovingly of their relationship….sweethearts since high school. He talked about the ring, which had been picked with meticulous care, and told us they were celebrating their ten year anniversary with plans to  visit Falmouth with friends, who would conveniently back out  a few days earlier, so Rita wouldn’t be suspicious that the trip was anything extra special.

But, special it was indeed….and I’m still not sure who was beaming more after the proposal…Craig, Rita or me. It’s just so awesome to get to be invited into such a personal, intimate moment for a couple. And, getting to be around that kind of happy, new love never gets old!!

I just love the expression on her face as Craig readies to ring on it!

And with a kiss and a promise….a happy new future emerges.

It was funny to be within earshot as Craig explained that Andy & I were in on the surprise and were actually there to photograph them…..

We left Captain Tom & Helaine for a little walk around the island, heading straight for these cool dead trees that had, at some point, been growing along the shore.

newly engaged couple on beautiful beach

We hadn’t met Craig or Rita before, so it was fun to get to know them better and see how they are together. It is obvious that these two love each other very much and that this next chapter will be a very happy one for them.

Seeing decaying tree roots along the beach was an unexpected and happy surprise…much like the proposal!

Roots….they’ve already become pretty well established for Rita & Craig…and we look forward to seeing what sprouts up next for these two lovebirds.

Ahhhh……does it get any better?

I was slightly obsessed with the cool roots on the island.

After some time to soak in the magnitude of what had just happened, our newly engaged couple headed back to the boat.

But, first a quick stop in the lush beach grass for a bit more canoodling.

Happy. Happy. Happy!

couple walking in beach grass

As the sun set, it took the tide with it, leaving our boat stuck in shallow water. We all jumped out to lessen the load, and Captain Tom & Helaine pulled the boat to deeper water. It made for a fun photo opportunity of our lovebirds taking an unexpected dip. I love this next photo because it feels a bit like a metaphor for marriage, where it’s not always smooth sailing, but how you deal with challenges can make all the difference in how you weather unavoidable obstacles. The big smiles on these two beautiful faces tells me their future looks bright!

Kicking back and enjoying the ride…

Back on land, we headed to Main Street, Chatham, where Craig & Rita wanted to celebrate with dinner and some phone calls home, to share the happy news.

chatham engagement

Awwww…are they sweet or what?! On the boat ride back, Craig & Rita shared with us that they had both attended Beth Sholom Day Camp in New York as kids.  “But, we hadn’t really known each other, since the young boys and girls did not interact too much.” Craig told us. But, in the summer of 2004, they finally met, having made the switch from campers to Counselors in Training.

“It was actually love at first sight for me,” Craig told us. “We initially started flirting, since we went to rival junior high schools.” Their school rivalry continued through high school, and they officially began dating the summer before their junior year of high school, two years after first meeting.

Their relationship continued to grow through college, despite their schools being a four-hour drive away from each other. Last fall, they moved in together to a flat in Manhattan. And, now they will begin planning their wedding. We are secretly (or not so secretly anymore) hoping that as we did for Jim & Keri’s CT wedding, that Craig & Rita want us to be there to document their next happy milestone too!

chatham main street engagement

Roses are red, violets are blue, we were there for the yes, and would love to be at the wedding too.  A bit lame, and shameless….I admit! But, these two are just so stinkin’ cute!

main street chatham engagement

Dinner was calling and the light nearly gone from the sky, so it was time to bid adieu to our newly-engaged, new friends. Hugs were exchanged and we said, goodbye. They turned to leave and we watched as, finally alone, they shared a moment. Perhaps my favorite photo of the day.

main street chatham engagement

Craig, thank you so much for choosing to share this special moment with us. It was both an honor and an absolute privilege! And, Rita….there was a lot for you to take in, and we so appreciate your warmth and openness to us. We have no doubt you already are well aware of this, but you are a very lucky woman. Thank you both so very much for allowing us this peek into your lives and we wish you both many, many more happy years together! With big love & hugs, Christine & Andy xo
