Our story with Jim & Keri began almost five years ago to the day. Jim had reached out with the loveliest email, asking whether we would be available to photograph him asking his then girlfriend, Keri, to marry him, while they were visiting their favorite place…Cape Cod the week before Thanksgiving. Despite our 11+ years of photographing hundreds of weddings and countless engagement sessions, we hadn’t before then documented a real life pop-the-question, proposal.
Needless to say, we jumped at the chance, and with each new conversation with Jim, I became more smitten. He really is one of the sweetest guys on the planet. And, the way he loves Keri…well, let’s just say, she is one lucky gal!! Jim & I spoke several times, planning out all the details to his exacting and romantic standards. We had a lot of fun and when the day came, it was everything I knew it would be for him and more! Keri, of course, said “Yes!” and so their love story embarked on a new and happy chapter.
Keri & Jim live in Connecticut, so we figured the wedding would be there…still, we held our collective breath that they might want us to be a part of that too. And, happily, they did. We got together again with them the following May, for their engagement session, which was again held here on the Cape. Then, in September of 2015, they said, “I do!” surrounded by family & friends at the stunning Branford House in Mystic Connecticut.
We were there for all of it, every happy, love-filled minute.
When they announced they were pregnant earlier this year, Jim reached out again about having me take some newborn photos. I can’t really express how happy this question makes me. For starters, Andy & I don’t have any kids of our own, but we LOVE them!! And babies make me go all gooey inside. I feel my maternal instincts go into overdrive. The smell of them makes my hormones go wacky and I feel a kind of regret I don’t like to feel, but that’s hard to escape in their presence. Mostly, though…there’s just lots of love. A calm, beautiful, this-is-what-it’s-all-about kind of love.
Getting asked to document the earliest days in the new life one of our wedding couples has created also brings me such a sense of gratitude…..that wonderful couples like Keri & Jim want to keep us in their lives and want US to be the ones documenting the person most special to them in the whole world. Well, there really is no better endorsement, no greater gesture of love & trust and it reminds me why I got into photography in the first place.
It’s all about relationships for me….building them, witnessing them, documenting them and nurturing them. And, I feel so blessed to still be doing so 16 years later.
Jim & Keri have been wickedly patient waiting for these photos, which took longer to get to than I either care to admit or than was promised, so I think it’s time to stop blathering on and just get to the good stuff. Without further ado….I present to you Day 9 in the life of sweet Baby D, starting with a sweet corner in the nursery and a portrait of Jim & Keri’s first baby (furbaby), Brewster.
Waking up from a nap to greet me….eyes full of wonder and a head of hair like you read about! Hello sunshine!
The whole family gathers as it’s time for a feeding. Love these in between moments!
Food coma setting in and our happy new mom & dad transfixed by their wee little man.
It’s amazing to me how quickly babies grow and change. Perhaps it’s easy for me to say that, from the comfort of never having experienced the sleep depravation of parenthood, but still….one minute their these wee little love nuggets who do nothing but eat, poop and sleep….and cry when one of those needs isn’t being tended to to their liking. And, then the next minute they’re smiling and crawling and babbling in a way they only understand, looking like a completely different person. It’s just the coolest.
Love the way Jim is looking at Keri in this next one…not sure who he’s more smitten with…his wife or his new son! Just as it should be!
Perfection….from the swollen baby eyes and little back wrinkles to the perfect baby skin…Just heavenly!
I mean….is there anything better than a sleeping little nugget of love? I think not!
Just so yummy!
Sleep my beauty….sleep.
Kisses from momma….Mmmmm good!
A little quiet time with Dadda, in his favorite chair. Heaven lives here.
So much has changed since we met these two lovely people, they got married, built a new house and had a baby. But, their love remains the same. So happy for these two!
Love is this….having a best friend and partner and multiplying that love to infinity and beyond with a new baby. Just the bestest!!!
These sweet little feet will carry you as long & far as you dare to dream! May they also dance and leap and feel the joy of sand between your toes until they are old and wrinkled, with lines as deep as those you carved in my heart! Go forth with love, Baby D! Go forth with love!
These next two crack me up!! In the one on the left it looks like Baby D is covering his private parts and looking none too pleased I’m photographing him in this way. And, in the next, it’s like he’s laughing and telling me, “Just kidding….we’re pals, you can photograph me.”
Brewster is looking a little put off by the loss of attention he’s been getting since his baby brother joined the party. But, don’t worry little guy…there’s plenty of love to go around!
There’s no better place in the world, then in the arms of the ones you love….snuggled on a super cozy couch.
Our new happy family! Welcome to the world Baby D! So glad you’re here!!
Night night sweet pea!
Jim & Keri….how to properly thank you both for sharing this incredibly special time with me!?! Just no words, really. Andy’s a bit jealous he didn’t get to meet Baby D, but we’re hoping to see you all on Cape Cod next summer, when I suspect much will have changed for your little love nugget! Thank you so much for welcoming me into your beautiful home, for sharing your beautiful son with me and for entrusting me to document his first days of life. It means the world to me…as do both of you! With so much love & hugs, Chris & Andy xo
