Newborn Session with Baby D ~ Connecticut Photographer

Our story with Jim & Keri began almost five years ago to the day. Jim had reached out with the loveliest email, asking  whether we would be available to photograph him asking his then girlfriend, Keri, to marry him, while they were visiting their favorite place…Cape Cod the week before Thanksgiving. Despite our 11+ years of photographing hundreds of weddings and countless engagement sessions, we hadn’t before then documented a real life pop-the-question, proposal.

Needless to say, we jumped at the chance, and with each new conversation with Jim, I became more smitten. He really is one of the sweetest guys on the planet. And, the way he loves Keri…well, let’s just say, she is one lucky gal!! Jim & I spoke several times, planning out all the details to his exacting and romantic standards. We had a lot of fun and when the day came, it was everything I knew it would be for him and more! Keri, of course, said “Yes!” and so their love story embarked on a new and happy chapter.

Keri & Jim live in Connecticut, so we figured the wedding would be there…still, we held our collective breath that they might want us to be a part of that too. And, happily, they did. We got together again with them the following May, for their engagement session, which was again held here on the Cape. Then, in September of 2015, they said, “I do!” surrounded by family & friends at the stunning Branford House in Mystic Connecticut.

We were there for all of it, every happy, love-filled minute.

When they announced they were pregnant earlier this year, Jim reached out again about having me take some newborn photos. I can’t really express how happy this question makes me. For starters, Andy & I don’t have any kids of our own, but we LOVE them!! And babies make me go all gooey inside. I feel my maternal instincts go into overdrive. The smell of them makes my hormones go wacky and I feel a kind of regret I don’t like to feel, but that’s hard to escape in their presence. Mostly, though…there’s just lots of love. A calm, beautiful, this-is-what-it’s-all-about kind of love.

Getting asked to document the earliest days in the new life one of our wedding couples has created also brings me such a sense of gratitude…..that wonderful couples like Keri & Jim want to keep us in their lives and want US to be the ones documenting the person most special to them in the whole world. Well, there really is no better endorsement, no greater gesture of love & trust and it reminds me why I got into photography in the first place.

It’s all about relationships for me….building them, witnessing them, documenting them and nurturing them. And, I feel so blessed to still be doing so 16 years later.

Jim & Keri have been wickedly patient waiting for these photos, which took longer to get to than I either care to admit or than was promised, so I think it’s time to stop blathering on and just get to the good stuff. Without further ado….I present to you Day 9 in the life of sweet Baby D, starting with a sweet corner in the nursery and a portrait of Jim & Keri’s first baby (furbaby), Brewster.

Waking up from a nap to greet me….eyes full of wonder and a head of hair like you read about! Hello sunshine!

The whole family gathers as it’s time for a feeding. Love these in between moments!

Food coma setting in and our happy new mom & dad transfixed by their wee little man.

It’s amazing to me how quickly babies grow and change. Perhaps it’s easy for me to say that, from the comfort of never having experienced the sleep depravation of parenthood, but still….one minute their these wee little love nuggets who do nothing but eat, poop and sleep….and cry when one of those needs isn’t being tended to to their liking. And, then the next minute they’re smiling and crawling and babbling in a way they only understand, looking like a completely different person. It’s just the coolest.

Love the way Jim is looking at Keri in this next one…not sure who he’s more smitten with…his wife or his new son! Just as it should be!

Perfection….from the swollen baby eyes and little back wrinkles to the perfect baby skin…Just heavenly!

I mean….is there anything better than a sleeping little nugget of love? I think not!

Just so yummy!

Sleep my beauty….sleep.

Kisses from momma….Mmmmm good!

A little quiet time with Dadda, in his favorite chair. Heaven lives here.

So much has changed since we met these two lovely people, they got married, built a new house and had a baby. But, their love remains the same. So happy for these two!

Love is this….having a best friend and partner and multiplying that love to infinity and beyond with a new baby. Just the bestest!!!

These sweet little feet will carry you as long & far as you dare to dream! May they also dance and leap and feel the joy of sand between your toes until they are old and wrinkled, with lines as deep as those you carved in my heart! Go forth with love, Baby D! Go forth with love!

These next two crack me up!! In the one on the left it looks like Baby D is covering his private parts and looking none too pleased I’m photographing him in this way. And, in the next, it’s like he’s laughing and telling me, “Just kidding….we’re pals, you can photograph me.”

Brewster is looking a little put off by the loss of attention he’s been getting since his baby brother joined the party. But, don’t worry little guy…there’s plenty of love to go around!

There’s no better place in the world, then in the arms of the ones you love….snuggled on a super cozy couch.

Our new happy family! Welcome to the world Baby D! So glad you’re here!!

Night night sweet pea!

Jim & Keri….how to properly thank you both for sharing this incredibly special time with me!?! Just no words, really. Andy’s a bit jealous he didn’t get to meet Baby D, but we’re hoping to see you all on Cape Cod next summer, when I suspect much will have changed for your little love nugget! Thank you so much for welcoming me into your beautiful home, for sharing your beautiful son with me and for entrusting me to document his first days of life. It means the world to me…as do both of you! With so much love & hugs, Chris & Andy xo

Kate, James and Family Session ~ Orleans Portrait Photographers

Last summer we were invited by Kate to photograph her family at their family beach in Orleans, Coast Guard Beach. The beaches down Cape are so different from the ones here in Falmouth & Mashpee. Short, somewhat rocky (though totally lovely) beaches are replaced by long, expansive sandy shorelines, that seem to go on for as far as the eye can see.

It’s always a pleasure when we get to photograph on the lower Cape. And, last summer we had such a blast with Kate, her husband, James and their two sweet peas, Isabella and Jacqueline. So, we were super excited when Kate reached out to us again this year to once again photograph her family. To add to the fun, she was bringing her parents, Barbara & Jack, and her sissie and her family, Jennifer, Ben and Gracie.

Once again, we visited Coast Guard Beach, a place Kate and her family have all spent a lot of time. Kate was even showing us photos from  her surfing days at the beach. Girl can ride a wave!!

We don’t have any of those photos to share, sadly, but we do have a few of our favorites from our time with this lovely bunch. Without further ado…we start with the crazy cute cousins…Jacqueline, Isa and Gracie. Be still my baby-loving heart!

Kate, James and the girls, Isabella & Jacqueline…are they cute or what?!!

Jennifer, Ben and Gracie-Grace! I’m dating myself here, but Gracie totally reminds of me of Shirley Temple in this photo….adorable girls and a smile that’ll stop you in your tracks. Couldn’t you just munch those cheeks?!

Barbara & Jack with their sweet grand babies. Oh the love!!!

Playing in the waves with Daddy….go Gracie, go!

The whole gang….such lovely peeps!

Hugs & kisses with mommy…

There was a giant octopus shaped kite flying at the beach when we were there and Jacqueline was OBSESSED!! She couldn’t get enough. Just love this moment with Dadda…

Jacqueline has done some modeling…can you tell?! I could photograph this girl all day, every day!

Still looking at that kite…bless her sweet little cheeks!

Meanwhile, Gracie was all about the water. Let her go and she was off and making a b-line for it. In this next photo, mommy & daddy join her and she couldn’t be happier.

Running like the wind with mommy…

Footprints….they show us where we’ve been and lead us where we’re going.

Catch me if you can….gotcha!!!!

Just love how Isa is pulling up her dress, as if to keep the water off it. Precious!

Every night before bed, Kate & James scoop up their girls for a family group hug….and the girls LOVE it! So did we! (Hey, got room for two more?!)

While the rest of the family headed back to the house and called it a day, Kate, James and the kids stayed for a bit longer with us…for a little quality family time playing on the beach. These are the days!!

Eureka!!! Look what Jacqueline found! Those eyes!! I just can’t!

If life can be made up of a collection of moments like these…where nothing else matters but the people you’re with….well, that would be a very full life!

Look at me balance Daddy! Oh, beautiful, happy, lovely girl!!

And, with the sun officially set, we have a few moments of magic light….my faveeeee!

Summer feet…

simple pleasures…

and digging for treasures…

…where love can always be found! Here, with you!

Kate & James….thank you once again for sharing your beautiful family with us and for introducing us to more of your wonderful family!! We loved spending time with all of you and hope these photos remind you of an afternoon well spent….where the sun shone brightly, the water was warm and inviting, and love swirled all around! Can’t wait to do it again!! Till then, big love to you all!

Fabulous Foggy Family Session ~ Coast Guard Beach

F0321_0155

Andy & I were really looking forward to meeting Kate, James and their two gorgeous girls, Isabella & Jacqueline. Kate had heard about us through her cousin Jacqueline…who we met last summer when she & her super sweet hubs, Shaun, had commissioned us to photograph them and their two crazy cute boys, Colin & Rory. Click HERE for a peek at our amazing evening with them.

We all instantly hit it off and had so much fun together, so we were super stoked to get to meet more of this wonderful family. And, well…they didn’t disappoint!

Like cousin Jacqueline, we met with Kate & her family at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham. The weather had been questionable for most of the morning, but things had cleared later in the afternoon, so we headed down Cape feeling hopeful. Just as we drove down the beach road this crazy thick fog rolled in…we could actually see it literally rolling in across the road. It was crazy and I immediately got nervous about what this meant for the photos.

But, as it turned out, the fog added a certain dreaminess to the photos that was, well…perfect for this dreamy family! See for yourself…

We started out at the beach’s boardwalk bridge, which turned out to be a bit too sunny, but we were able to catch this super cute moment with Kate & Isabella, who seemed pretty excited about having two new friends with whom to play. And, baby sis, Jacqueline….well if ever there was a perfect smiley Gerber face, surely hers is it! I could just munch on those cheeks for days!

See what I mean about dreamy…..as mommy watches her baby girl build a sand castle (of sorts).

Isabella was pretty much up for anything, including practicing her balancing on a gorgeous piece of driftwood. Mommy wasn’t too shabby either!

These next two photos show how changing your camera’s settings and taking two photos, at more or less exactly the same time, can create very different results.

For this one, we let in more light and shifted our family slightly to capture the gorgeous green beach grass. Do you have a favorite?

Kate & James explained how their family ritual with the girls is to do a big group hug every night before bed. Isabella was very excited to show us how….adorable!!

First we’d like to thank Jacqueline & Shaun for spreading the Bello love and having your wonderful cousin reach out to us!! It’s the best form of advertising there is for us and we just love getting to keep it in the family! Hope to see you guys, and your sweet boys again soon!! Maybe we can all get together for drinks the next time you’re all on the Cape?!!! Kate & James…thank you both so very much for welcoming us with such open arms and warm hearts! You and your girls are delightful and we had such a nice evening with you all! Hope these photos serve as happy reminders of your time here on beautiful Cape Cod! With much love, Christine & Andy xo
